Henry Ford built more than cars — he built a system. After founding the Ford Motor Company on June 16, 1903, he launched the Model T in 1908, and by 1913 his Highland Park plant was running the world's first moving assembly line, cutting chassis assembly from roughly 12.5 man-hours to about 93 man-minutes.

His belief that a well-paid workforce should be able to afford the vehicles it built led to the $5, eight-hour workday — a radical bet that helped put America on wheels and, eventually, a Ford dealership in nearly every city in the country.
